REGISTRATION FOR THE 2017 VEGAN CUPCAKE COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED.
General Division: Includes all recreational bakers, cupcake enthusiasts, and basically anyone not competing in the Elite/Professional Division.
Elite/Professional Division: Includes any entrant who either:
a. currently works or has ever worked as a pastry chef, chef, baker, or decorator at a restaurant, bakery, or other food establishment;
b. has graduated from culinary/pastry school;
c. is an advanced-level student currently attending culinary/pastry school;
d. has ever won a 1st Place award at the SoCal VegFest Cupcake Competition (General or Elite/Professional Division), the Orange County Fair, or any other major baking competition; OR
e. has been a serious home baker/cook for 10+ years.
The criteria for the General and Elite/Professional Divisions are guidelines only, and each contestant should enter the Division they feel best describes their level. Judges and organizers may move entrants into another Division if they deem it appropriate.
Please also note that there is also a separate Admission Fee to the VegFest of $5 if purchased online in advance ($10 at the door). VegFest admission is FREE for little kids under 12, big kids over 65, military, and veterans. The VegFest is volunteer run, and many OC vegans & friends have graciously donated their time, talents, and personal funds to make this event happen for the 3rd year in a row. We are excited at the rapidly growing interest in veganism and look forward to holding this year's VegFest at the OC Fair & Event Center, but are disappointed that we had to charge an admission fee to make it a reality. We trust that the OC community will still embrace and support this celebration of healthy eating and conscious living, and hope that everyone will enjoy the speakers, celebrity talks, cooking demos, live music, vegan food samples, and cruelty-free marketplace in addition to the cupcake competition. If it is a financial hardship for any cupcake competitor to pay the Cupcake Registration Fee of $5 plus the VegFest Admission Fee of $5, please let us know cupcake@bigtentvegan.com, and we will try our best to be accommodating. Thank you for your understanding and support.
