Vegan pies are taking over Los Angeles! Congratulations to my love Susan Asato for winning 1st Place with her Vegan Bumbleberry Pie at the 2015 Los Angeles County Fair (Pomona, Los Angeles, CA, USA) All-American Pie Contest (Fruit Pies) AND to Jessica Kubel, who won 2nd Place for her Vegan Peach Pie with Streusel Topping! YES...the judges awarded both 1st AND 2nd Place to VEGAN PIES! And this was in direct competition against non-vegan pies.

We're always excited whenever Susan wins an award, but this time it was extra special because of Jessica's win too. Jessica herself is not a vegan, but she has many vegan friends and enjoys entering contests to prove that vegan food can be just as good (or better!) than non-vegan food. We also found out that Jessica won 1st Place at this competition last year for her Vegan Strawberry Pie! GO JESSICA!

There are people out there who still might think that you NEED "real" dairy butter, cream, eggs, or even lard in order to have a top-notch pie. But competitors like Jessica and Susan are proving that to be just a myth. We are grateful that the LA County Fair Chef Judges understand this (as all accomplished Chefs do), and evaluate the vegan pies on their own merits without prejudice or preconceptions. All you need for great tasting food is high quality ingredients and good technique.

Congrats again to these two amazing women for helping to show that compassion is delicious! Vegans, pie lovers, and animals everywhere celebrate with you. CHEERS!

Thanks for reading.
